Program:
West Hills Montessori is pleased to offer a summer program of Montessori education and creative expression exploration. During the morning hours, our youngest children will spend their mornings exploring the rich materials of the Montessori classroom under the caring and attentive guidance of our AMI trained staff.

To young children, there is something very special about doing things that adults find ordinary. Practical Life exercises, such as pouring and spooning, washing dishes or polishing shoes completely absorbs them. We recognize this process as the beginning of control and coordination of mind and body. Through sensory experiences, the children distinguish, categorize, and relate new information to what they already know. They learn math with concrete materials. They construct words with the Moveable Alphabet, which ultimately, progresses to the nuances of the English language, function of words, and grammar.

Our Primary Montessori Curriculum is broad and includes:
  • Mathematics
  • Language Arts
  • Geography
  • Science & Nature
  • Cultural Awareness
  • Music
  • Creative Arts
  • Peace Education

Once a week, in the morning, the younger class will meet with Joan Gunness, our Creative Movement & Arts Specialist. Combining Creative Movement with Music & Art, the children will have the opportunity to express themselves through various mediums. Focus will be on developing a sense of body awareness and a relationship of self to others and space. From this, the students will connect with their own inner impulses for a unique creative expression.
