SUMMER PROGRAMS/CHILDCARE PAGE
Vermont Street Summer Program:
West Hills offers a summer program for children ages 3 to 12 years of age. Our program runs from June to August,
five days a week. The classroom activities include both traditional learning and playing materials, music, art and
crafts. Our program offers many activities that will enrich your child's summer experience.
For students ages 5 and older, we offer theme based sessions including drama and dance, Spanish language and
culture, science and sports. One day a week, the Older and Elementary classes will either take a field trip to a nearby
point of interest/cultural event that relates to the theme or have a special offering held at school. For our younger
students, we offer a summer program of Montessori education and creative expression exploration. We have a Creative
Movement Specialist, Joan Gunness, who facilitates a special class combining creative movement, music, and art, once a
week. The children have the opportunity to express themselves through various mediums. Focus is on developing a sense of
body awareness as well as the relationship of self to others. This allows students to connect with their own inner
impulse for a unique creative expression.
